There are several reasons why you may need to request a copy of your Georgia driving record after a driving under the influence (DUI) arrest. Immediately after your arrest, you may need a copy for your attorney so he or she can begin preparing your defense. If you are convicted of drunk driving, you will want to check your driving record to see if the offense has been removed — this can help you when trying to get your insurance premiums reduced.
Receive Your Record Through These Methods
The Department of Driver Services (DDS) provides three options for residents who would like a copy of their driving record: online, mail, and in person. No matter which option you choose, the cost is $6 for a three-year record and $8 for a seven-year record.
To order a copy of your driving record online, visit the DDS website . You will have the option to select a viewable version, which you can see immediately, or a certified version, which will be mailed to you or a third party upon request. Please keep in mind that some insurance companies or employers will only accept the certified version. For online orders, the DDS accepts American Express, Discover, MasterCard, and Visa.
To order a copy of your driving record by mail, you must send a DDS-18 form to the DDS and specify whether you would like a three- or seven-year record. In addition, you must include your name, mailing address, date of birth, license number, and a self-addressed stamped envelope. When ordering by mail, personal checks, cashier's checks, business checks, money orders, and major credit cards are accepted as payment. Money orders and checks must be made out to the Department of Driver Services.
To receive a copy of your driving record right way, you may wish to visit a DDS Customer Service center — just bring identification. All Customer Service Centers accept MasterCard and Visa; however, you should call ahead to see if the center you wish to visit accepts American Express.
